Job Description – Bi-Vocational Pastor

Pike Baptist Church • Pike, Texas

Pike Baptist Church is seeking a bi-vocational pastor to shepherd our congregation, strengthen our outreach, and help us grow in faith, family, and purpose in Christ. This individual will provide spiritual leadership to the church while working collaboratively with a committed group of lay leaders who are ready to walk alongside and support the new pastor.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Worship Leadership

    • Prepare and deliver weekly sermons grounded in Scripture

    • Oversee all aspects of worship services, including planning, preaching, ordinances, and invitations

    • Encourage participation from members in music, prayer, and Scripture reading

  • Spiritual Formation

    • Provide pastoral care, counseling, and spiritual direction for individuals and families

    • Lead discipleship efforts and encourage ongoing spiritual growth

    • Teach and support Bible study opportunities for all ages

  • Community Engagement

    • Serve as a Community Ambassador of Pike Baptist Church—building relationships, representing the church publicly, and embodying our mission outside the walls

    • Champion the church’s presence in the local area through outreach, service, and relational investment

    • Encourage missional living among members and lead by example

  • Leadership and Collaboration

    • Work in close partnership with the Deacons and Trustees to care for the body and steward church resources

    • Encourage unity, accountability, and shared vision within the church

    • Support and equip lay leaders in their areas of ministry

Qualifications:

  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and evidence of spiritual maturity

  • A genuine call to serve the local church in pastoral ministry

  • Meets the biblical qualifications of an elder/pastor, as outlined in:

    • 1 Timothy 3:1–7

    • Titus 1:5–9

    • 1 Peter 5:1–4

  • Willingness to serve in a bi-vocational capacity

  • Willing to invest in the community and build relationships outside the church

  • Ability to lead, teach, and relate to people across generations
